Korea in the year 2050

History

2021 Earth -The World Government takes the lead after the "big ones" have faded into the background. The Moslems and South-East Asians are in a strong position. The World Government promises strong measures against "the old corruption."

2024 Orbit -The World Government buys the rights to Space Station 9 from its creditors. The project to change it to a base for a space-navy is begun.

2025 Earth -The Pacific Coalition is founded. All East and South-East Asian countries, except China whom the others suspect of plans of expansion, join. Trade flourishes in spite of this.

2026 Earth -The World Government launches a campaign to prohibit alcohol and porno-industry as things that "degrade humanity." Orbit -Space Station 9 is completed and settled.

2029 Orbit -The Pacific Coalition starts the construction of the Cube for Earth orbit.

2032 Earth -The World Government tries to dicipline the countries and corporations that had invaded Bahrain. It gives up after a freezing (and in some cases violent) reply. The decline of the World Government begins.

2036 Earth -United Samsung buys North-Korea. Kim Jong Il retires as a rich man. The World Governments opinion is not asked. Orbit -The Cube is completed and settled.

General info

The Koreans are finally united and for the last decades they have been able to direct their energies into economical steamrolling, which has resulted in a strong economical growth. The means for this has been a tight commercial struggle with China and especially Japan about the market areas of South-East Asia. On the other hand these three countries are at the moment engaged in solid co-operation their aim being to leave all other countries behind.

Religions

Local animistic religions (shamanism) are flourishing, other religions are considered to be mumbo-jumho. (Chinese and Japanese religions are respected but not bowed at.)

Culture

Fashion and beauty

As also in China and Japan, the traditionalistic trend is strong. This means simple and conservative styles.

The general way of thinking

The economical growth is all, other countries are decadent an to be exploited. China is an old friend, which every now and then has to be diciplined. The Japanese are pigs and too full of themselves, but necessary for our future. Therefore we tolerate them but not easily.

Economy

Growing. After the purchase of North-Korea there was a smallish depression, but after some rearrangements prosperous times are here again.

Social order

"Democratic dictatorship," ie. professional politicians and the executive management groups of megacompanies decide the policy. The ordinary people obey and try to get rich.

Main industries

Electronics are steamrolling, United Samsung is one of the largest producers of electronics in the world. Co-operation with China is close (we design, they produce). On the other hand lots of subcontracting is given to Japan (even though it hurts our pride).

Army and the zones of combat

The army is loyal to the government, diciplined and efficient (in regard to its size, which is enough for the home front). The navy is used to protect the countrys merchant vessels on restless waters. Army and the air force are used to punish pirates etc. The Korean army is bigger than the Japanese, and this the Japanese consider worrysome.

Friends and enemies

The closest friend is China (a good big brother...), with Japan there is a "friendship" (they are pigs all of them anyway), other countries are there to be exploited. Surprisingly enough, Korea does not have any real enemies.
