Politics in the World of Wanderer

There are three different kinds of politics in the world of Wanderer.

1. Global Politics

Global Politics, which are basically the politics which concern everyone. These kind of things happen mostly between Earth and Moon and the Orbit. Lately most important issues have been:

  • Is Earth the ultimate place for humanity after all?
  • Moon is acquiring independence
  • Moon and Orbit have disagreements about the legal issues of the Orbit.
  • Is Earth Government strong enough to rule the whole universe
  • How the rest of the planets and asteroids are divided. Who's going to have what, and which parts.
  • Mars, the only planet suitable for terraforming.
  • Venus is full of minerals, but a very hard place to get them. It's under discussion how to exploit Venus.
  • Jupiters moon Europe is full of water, which makes it the most valuable place in the universe.
  • The Most powerful players in the global politics are: The Judges, Earth Government and the Moon Parliament, Trade Association of Earth Orbit, Peoples Republic of China, Religious Powers like Coalition of European Califate, North-African Islamic Republic and United Arabic Emirates.

Moonlady tales:

The Politics, from the Moon point of view, is the ultimate solution for all kinds of situations. Politics is the solution for the wise people of the Moon, Lunarians. They just want to live with their own habits and resources, without the corrupting touch of the Earth.

Orbital View:

Orbital stations are considered as neutral when talking about politics. The Orbit is the place for hidden battles, the place where the dirty deeds are done. The Orbit hasn't had too much of any political power so far, but it has quite rapidly got some global influence, since it's the only place of spacecraft manufacturing. Both Earth and Moon depend on orbital factories.

Mother Earth's point of view:

The Moon is an enemy of the Earth Government, since it's trying to reduce the dominant power of the Earth. Earth is considered a supreme power over other powers. Earth is in a state of political anarchy. On the Earth Moon is still the far colony, which need the Earths motherly touch. The Earth is considering the Moon as it's property; they paid it - they own it. The most important things on the Moon are He3 and some silicate sources which are very rare on the Earth. Since Moon is still depenent on Earth's water refills, they are not independent. That's why it's catastrophical for Earth if the Moon people would get the resources of Europe.

2. Corporate Politics

This is the main field of politics today. This is the field where most things get done and where the major players are playing. Here the trophy is a larger share of the global markets. This is also a windy place, where the winners most likely get either killed or very rich.

Corporations are affecting all field of politics. They have their own people in the local governments, local boards of councils, everywhere. They are also paying a lot to get their demands through in the world government. There's very little which is unavailable for a wealthy corporation which has resources everywhere.

In corporate politics most things are viewed as resources. To them all humans, all governments, all smaller companies, all natural resources are just the same, they are resources which are meant for their use. This well known fact is very often forgotten, because most either get or have got too much to blame the corporations...

There're some quite substantial powers:

  • SDCU (Space Development Corporations Union), which is basically a coalition of some moon based high-tech corporations (ZPG, BHE) and all Russian corporations.
  • NP (Northern Power), Hydrospace, Ingram, Nokia Interplanetary, Ahti Silli Int., Fleur de Lisle, Finland, Skandinavian Kingdom.
  • FTUE (Free Trade Union of Earth) Islamic Countries, Federal Spacecraft
  • FEEP (Far-East Economic Pact) Nambu, United Samsung, NSE
  • PaC (Pacific Coalition) All Pacific countries except China and Australia
  • UB (United Brotherlands) South-Africa, Brotherland, Haiti, Cuba
  • WIxx (West-Indian <kauppakomppania>) (India, Florida, pacific islands, some regions of Southern Far-East (like Pakistan and Afganistan)
  • TAEO (Trade Association of Earth Orbit) All Orbit based companies

Style

The style of corporation politics is that the strongests can do what ever they like. Each corporation has it's own "diplomats" and they settle all things without too much interference of any governmental agencies. Of course there are several more delicate ways to do politics, specifically between Moon based corporations it's customary to be more than friendly. Bootlicking is quite usual among the Moon corporations.

Taboos

There are no taboos in the corporate politics. It's as cold and dirty as it can be.

Goals

All corporations are driving for their own goals without thinking too much of the consequences. There are only a very few common goals among the corporations. They all have a common interest in money, power and the hatred over each other.

3. Local Politics

This is mainly state to state politics, which is losing it's prestige every day. But, still it has some value. And it´s quite impossible that this kind of behavior would completely disappear. It's just reforming, more and more issues previusly handled by local politics are now handled with corporate politics. One could even say that there are issues which are mostly local corporate politics.

Currently politicians involved in local politics are mainly corporate officials or governmental agents. There are thousands of burning issues in the different neighbourhoods of the world. Just as an example, the burning things in remote Finland.

  • Is the Russian mafia going to try hostile takeover of Carelia again?
  • Economical status of High-Tech (due Nokia Interplanetary is a major player around here)
  • Who will be the next king of the Kingdom of Scandinavia and will he be as good a friend as the current one?
  • Is the Holy Roman Empire a political threat or a possible ally?
  • The price of Water is increasing. How to keep our water for ourselves?
  • The relations toward Califate of Europe have been cold for while, could it be possible to warm them a bit.
  • Is Japanese and Korean high-tech a threat for Nokia?
  • Why is Ahti Silli International losing it's shares of global market?
  • How long is it safe to take all the criminals of Europe to the Prisoncity of Turku?
  • Should Finland hire even more police officers to maintain it´s strict laws in Finlands American colony too? Local politics of Earth:

  • area based politics
  • religion has still quite remarkable influence in the local politics
