General knowledge
Space the unknown frontier... but it's gettin slowly brighter.
In Wanderer's 2053 humankind has succeeded in spreading it's outposts
to all the inner planets of the solar system and even as far as Jupiter.
The first spacestation to Saturnus will also arrive soon.
Spacetravel is like taking a aeroplane flight and several of the
transcontinental flights do orbital jumps to shorten travelling time.
The Earth has in its orbit tens of spacestations with hundreds of
thousands people working and living there. Shuttles travel between the
stations transporting people and goods, and there are also daily
shuttleflights to the Moon.
One of the most profitable industries is the Far End Hut station owned
by Space Front Ltd. This station is in the Main Belt between Mars and Jupiter. It's
function is to find and transport suitable astroids to the Earths orbit,
where they are transformed into space stations.
Humans working in space tend to see themselves as the lucky part of
humankind. Both on the stations around the Earth as well as on the Moon,
the general belief is that Earth is a rathole where no-one wants to
live. But on the stations that are farther away like The Far End Hut and
Europa, Earth is viewed like a paradise like place where the air is
fresh and the sky is blue. This is mainly because most of the people
living there will never get to visit Earth.
The New frontiers under discussion are Mars as the most suitable
colonization planet and Jupiters Moon Europa with it's huge water
supplies.
The Moon has gotten an increasingly strong position in space, as
international treaties have placed MoonPol as the judical group
responcible of keeping space lawful. The Space Control is also
placed on the Moon. This station acts as traffic control for the
hundreds of ships and shuttles moving in space. Only one country,
China, refuses to obey instructions from the station, so to avoid
international conflicts, Space Control usually directs spaceships
to stay far away from the Chinese vessels. The controlling satelite
and radar utilities that Space Control has in its use can very
accurately follow ships near the Moon and The Earth, But there has
never been enough funding to develop a system that could accurately
monitor traffic near other planets. So if a ship gets as far as the
Main Belt between Mars and Jupiter it's mostly on it's own and very
hard to detect unless it wants to be detected.
